Macroeconomic study of renewable energies in Spain
The Association of Renewable Energies (APPA) has published an annual survey where the main macroeconomic indicators in the sector are collected.
Renewable energy as a whole contributed with 8,511 million euros to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employed 74,566 workers and produced savings of 5,989 milion euros to avoid energy imports and 279 million allowances.
Renewable energy power saved 5,370 million euros in the electricity market.
According to the report, the renewable energy sector contributed with 8,511 millon euros to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 1000 millon in net taxes and contributing to improve our trade balance with a net export balance of 2,793 million euros. These figures represent an increase of 3,3% in real terms and in the second consecutive year growth after years in which the sector has been penalized for renewable moratorium. The contribution of the sector to GDP was 0,76% of the total, still far from the 2012 data when it was more than 1%.
By technology, the contribution to GDP was:
Solar photovoltaic: 32,37%
Wind: 22,38%
Solar thermal: 16,45%
Electric biomass: 15,44%
Biofuels: 6,91%
Minihydraulic: 3,80%
Rest of technologies: 2,65%

Compliance with objectives 2020
The indicative targets on renewable electricity participation im meeting the overall target of 20% in 2020, are set out in the Renewable Energy Plan (PER) 2011 – 2020, as mandated by Directive 2009/28/EC.
