2 – Rubber insulation.

3 – Flexible rubber outer sheath.

AN EXTRA-FLEXIBLE, STRONG AND VERSATILE RUBBER CABLE

XTREM® H07RN-F rubber cables, also known as rubber cables or neoprene cables, are extremely flexible, robust and resistant. They are widely used in industrial areas and in installations requiring cables subject to constant bending and twisting movements. Rubber cables are resistant to oils, water, ozone, ageing and abrasion, and are designed for intensive use in industrial equipment, heavy tools, battery chargers, portable lights and extension cords. They are also recommended for machines, cranes and dock power applications or where water immersion is required.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE XTREM® H07RN-F CABLE

The XTREM® H07RN-F cable has extreme flexibility and excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, abrasion and impact and can be installed permanently submerged in water (AD8):

Resistant to extreme temperatures

Extra-flexible cable

AD8 (submersion)

Resistant to oils, abrasions and impacts

INSTALLATIONS WHERE IT IS ADVISABLE TO USE XTREM® H07RN-F CABLE

The robustness-flexibility tandem makes the XTREM® H07RN-F rubber cable ideal for supplying electrical power in the most demanding installations:

RUBBER CABLES PRESCRIPTIONS

This type of cables are prescribed for provisional installations, in elevation machines and transport in the open air. In general, it is indicated for all mobile service applications with strong mechanical demands.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) ABOUT XTREM® H07RN-F CABLE

What does H07RN-F mean on a power cable?

Each cable has a standardised designation. The letters and numbers refer to the cable outer sheath, other outer sheath, the conductor class, the rated voltage and the final composition of the cable. In the case of H07RN-F, the letters stand for:

H: conforms to a harmonised standard.
07: rated voltage 450/750V.
R: EPR insulation.
N: polychloroprene (PCP) sheath.
-F: flexible conductor (class 5).

Here you can find more information on the designation of electrical cables.

What is the difference between the standard H07RN-F cable and the XTREM® H07RN-F cable manufactured by Top Cable?

Top Cable’s XTREM® H07RN-F cable has been manufactured using improved polymers with respect to the specifications of the EN 50525-2-21 / IEC 60092-353 / IEC 60245 standard, thus presenting a higher temperature and voltage rating than those indicated in the standard:

Maximum conductor temperature: 90°C. >>(the standard indicates 60°C).
Maximum short-circuit temperature: 250°C, for a maximum of 5 seconds. >>(the standard indicates 200°C).
Minimum service temperature: -40°C static with protection >>(standard indicates -25ºC).
Presence of water: AD8 (submerged) >> (the standard indicates AD6, temporary).

What are the advantages of H07RN-F cables over RV-K cables?

Rubber insulation is known for its ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions and its resistance to ageing and abrasion. Therefore, rubber cables (type H07RN-F) have an outstanding flexibility and resistance to extreme temperatures, superior to cables with XLPE insulation (type RV-K).

Over time, the sheath of a rubber cable behaves better to the effect of solar radiation and cold-hot-cold climatic variations, avoiding the presence of cracks on its surface, which may deepen with the passage of time. Cracking of the sheath may cause the conductors to become exposed to the air and degrade, leaving the copper of the conductor exposed, with the possibility of direct or indirect contact and the consequent risk of electrocution for a person. If the cable has to be subjected to bending and twisting movements, the effect of the cracks or cracking of the sheath increases, reaching the insulation of the conductors and, if the insulation of the conductors has given way, also causing a short-circuit due to the contact of the two conductors. Due to its characteristics, a rubber cable does not present this problem.

Which connector is suitable for a single-core XTREM® H07RN-F cable?

For low-voltage electrical applications, single-pole terminals or connectors are often used for power transfer. The industry standard for secure connections on cable sizes above 35 mm2 are Powerlock type connectors.

The connectors can be crimped directly onto the copper conductor, which constitutes a permanent termination; alternatively, a set screw can be applied for a temporary connection. M12 connectors are also used for busbar terminations, although they are not considered safe for exposed use due to the lack of insulation.
