Solar cables for PV rooftop developers, contractors & installers
Rooftop PV systems provide a clean and increasingly affordable option for building owners and occupants to produce their electricity. For this reason, the Rooftop Solar installation market is growing exponentially on a global scale. This trend is expected to continue going forward in the coming years, as building designers and engineers are considering solar rooftop installations more frequently on new buildings.
BUILDING A QUALITY, SAFE AND PROFITABLE ROOFTOP PV
Solar cables are an indispensable element of a photovoltaic installation, be it in large installations in industrial or corporate rooftop pv systems or smaller, domestic pv installations.
Building a quality, safe and profitable rooftop PV system with a good return on investment (RoI) is the most important goal of investors, developers, contractors, installers and project owners. Cables only represent around 4-5% of a solar project cost, but it can have a significant impacts on the power output. Cabling is often not considered to be a critical factor, however improper design and/or poor cable selection can lead to safety hazards, reduced power output, and other performance issues that may jeopardize the overall lifetime of a Rooftop PV system.
On the contrary, a proper cable selection and management are vital to the health of the PV system as it contributes to minimize maintenance, optimize safety, and enable longer-lasting PV systems.

ROOFTOP SOLAR CABLES DESIGNED ACCORDING TO EN 50818 STANDARD
To ensure the longevity and reliability of the PV system, cables used in rooftop solar generation must provide the highest performance to operate at full capacity despite harsh environmental conditions such as prolonged exposure to sunlight and direct ultraviolet (UV) rays, extreme temperature fluctuations, rainfall, exposure to moisture and other severe weather conditions. Therefore, cables used in Rooftop solar Installations must be designed according to EN 50618 Standard.
This European Standard applies to low smoke halogen-free, flexible, single-core power cables with cross-linked insulation and sheath. In particular for use at the direct current (d.c.) side of photovoltaic systems, with a nominal d.c. voltage of 1,5 kV between conductors and between conductor and earth. The cables are designed to operate at a normal maximum conductor temperature of 90 °C, but for a maximum of 20 000 hours a max. conductor temperature of 120 °C at a max. ambient temperature of 90 °C is permitted. The expected period of use under normal usage conditions as specified in this standard is at least 25 years.
EUROPEAN Cca CPR CERTIFICATION TO AVOID FIRE INCIDENTS
An important element of the cable in a rooftop system is how it reacts in the event of a fire. According to the European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) the Cca classification is the highest fire safety regulation for public places. In many European countries it is already mandatory to install Cca-rated cables in public places and in false ceilings or raised floors, according to the CPR application.

TÜV CERTIFICATION FOR SOLAR TECHNOLOGY
TÜV solar certification ensures that the cables used in your solar project meet the highest safety standards. This is how the risk of electrical accidents or failures is reduced and increasing the reliability of your system.
TOPSOLAR® H1Z2Z2-K CABLES ARE ESPECIALLY ENGINEERED TO MEET THE MOST EXIGENT SOLAR REQUIREMENTS
Top Cable’s TOPSOLAR® H1Z2Z2-K is certified by TÜV according to EN 50618 and by AENOR according to IEC 62930. Passes the most aggressive UV resistance tests of both standards, including two different UV tests from two accredited laboratories. It is also Cca CPR rated, meeting the highest solar CPR certification.
For the best performance when connecting solar panels, TOPSOLAR® H1Z2Z2-K cables have been designed with a rubber cross-linked insulation and outer sheath that makes the cable extremely flexible.
These are the most relevant technical characteristics of the TOPSOLAR® H1Z2Z2-K cable manufactured by Top Cable:
